The Value of Older Workers

Advertorial

Tori Anderson, Resourcing, Training & Development manager

At Pizza Hut we want to celebrate older workers, they are a valuable part of the workforce, and they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the jobs they do. We believe in the freedom to be who you want to be and believe that with a diverse team, it will only make us stronger.

We understand the workforce is getting older, hospitality can be seen as a young person’s game, but having been around for 40+ years, many of our employees have grown with us. We want to promote the opportunities we have in our business for all ages, but we also want to keep learning how we can best support our very own older workers, and how we also attract new ones!

We are a great option if you are looking for a career change – bring yourself with all your life experience and knowledge wherever that may be from, and we will give you the training to do the job. That could be making pizza’s in the kitchen or bringing a warm and friendly welcome to our guests in the restaurant. You may want to lead a team of people on shift or have your sights set on running the whole restaurant – age is no barrier. Learning opportunities are abundant, including formal qualifications like apprenticeships if that’s still something you are looking to achieve.

Our vision is to be the most loved place to eat, work and learn and we believe that having an age diverse workforce contributes to this massively – there is so much for both an employer and employee to gain from multi-generational teams. Speaking to older workers we have in our business they will talk about how the job keeps them feeling connected with different generations. Some feel the value they can add to younger people by sharing their life experience which supports them in guiding and developing a team around them. Working in a restaurant keeps both your mind and body active – being and thinking on your feet! Working in a restaurant, whether that is a small independent or a brand, it keeps you connected to your community. If you are thinking whether a job in hospitality is for you, we would encourage you to ask yourself 3 simple questions:

  1. Do you want a job where you have the flexibility to work around life outside work?
  2. Are you interested in staying both physically fit and mentally stimulated in what you do?
  3. Are you looking for social interaction and work in a people orientated space?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we want to help you explore what this could mean for you!

We have got involved with Older Workers week in previous years, but more from a place of learning. This year we want to jump up a gear and promote ourselves as a great place to work. We offer great flexibility within our role’s so this can work around your life outside work as well. This year we are not only promoting the job opportunities we have, but we also want to open our doors to those that are maybe curious to know more about us as a business and industry.
