Workingwise.co.uk has just launched its annual survey which covers a raft of areas, from jobseeking to training and career change.
The survey goes in-depth to understand the challenges facing older workers today. It looks at potential ageism in the recruitment process, whether older workers are offered regular opportunities to train or to get feedback, whether they feel excluded or included socially at work and whether they feel their experience is valued.
It also seeks to find out what their attitudes are to flexible working, career change – and what would support this, careers advice and the raising of the retirement age.
The survey asks about all different types of employment, including self employment and what benefits or risks it might offer. And it seeks to probe older workers’ attitudes to AI and whether they think this will make their job search easier or more difficult. There are also questions about caring responsibilities and their impact on working and the effect of the ongoing cost of living crisis on health.
The survey runs annually in advance of National Older Workers Week in November. Last year’s edition found 57% of current jobseekers believed that they had encountered ageism in the recruitment process. It also found that 88% of older workers are keen to learn something new, but, while most of these [72%] had received training recently, of those who hadn’t, 45% said it was because training was prioritised for younger people.
