Aggregate Industries

Our people will always be at the heart of our business and key to ushering it into a sustainable future. We recognise the positive contribution of our colleagues and teams and reward based on merit, not circumstance.

We recognise that to address the challenges of our fast moving markets and increased global complexity, diversity is a key. Growth, innovation and strong customer relationships all come from having employees that are proud to work for us. Our greatest teams have a mix of talent that embraces the power that human difference brings.

To underpin our commitment we have developed our Affinity Network Groups to encourage mutual responsibility across the core of our business –  to ensure we can attract and retain talent from every area of our society and continue to create a culture where every employee is respected, can be themselves and feel valued for their unique talents. We strongly believe everyone can and should bring their whole self to work, without the fear of being judged.  Our Affinity groups have a strong voice and help us shape our plans as we work together to build progress.

We’re at the front line of the construction and infrastructure industries, producing and supplying an array of construction materials. We’re home to everything from aggregates, asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and precast concrete products, and we also produce, import and supply construction materials, export aggregates and offer national road surfacing and contracting services. We’re also a proud member of Holcim; the leading global building materials and solutions company with around 90,000 employees in over 80 countries.

The scope for career progression and diversification is vast. As a multi-faceted, multi-discipline business with over 270 sites and around 3,900 dedicated employees in the UK, we recruit talented people across a broad spectrum of roles, including:

We are proud to base our business on our values of equality, flexibility and mutual respect. We foster an environment where everyone can forge their own path by offering training, support and flexibility to create balance inside and outside of work. We encourage our people to discuss their requirements with their line manager, who will do what’s possible to accommodate them.

The roles and opportunities we offer are diverse

male and female colleagues standing side by sideWe’re always looking for talented people that push the limits of what’s possible and who are willing to continue to learn and build a better tomorrow. Help us reinvent how the world builds with your fresh ideas, insights and perspectives.

Helping you achieve the balance you crave

We know that balancing work and home life is challenging. We’re proud to give new parents the time off they need to adjust to their new responsibilities (18 weeks full pay for new mums, alongside a generous return to work bonus and 2 weeks fully paid paternity leave for Dads).

We work hard to support flexible working where it’s possible, for example offering the option of working from alternative sites if they are more convenient and it works with the job. Ultimately, we will do what we can to make sure you can make the school run, visit an elderly relative in hospital or attend a parents evening at school.

Benefits & Rewards

This is where your hard work will get recognised and rewarded. We understand your personal benefits are an important part of working for Aggregate Industries, both for you and your close ones. We provide more than a salary, our rewards and benefits focus on your Health, Finances and Lifestyle ensuring that we really deliver value to all of our employees.

Case Studies

Claire Horsfall, General Manager

As a leader what changes would you like to see in the working world over the next 5 years?

“Our customers and end users are just as diverse as the world we live in. In order to succeed, I really believe we need to bring more different viewpoints to the table, and then make sure that everybody feels able to bring their unique perspectives, experiences and curiosity to the table. For this to happen, we all need to be prepared to ask the difficult questions and open our minds to (sometimes uncomfortable) new responses, and then together, respectfully build on each other’s thinking”

What are the biggest challenges facing working women today?

“There are still stereotypes about how successful people behave at work – strong, loud, challenging, having all the best ideas themselves, rising to senior positions and directing the teams around them. Quite often, working women will find this uncomfortable and lean towards a more participative and relationship-oriented workplace. In many workplaces, this can lead to not being noticed or credited with their work and I think it’s important that everyone is recognised for what they achieve, how they influence, support and cooperate with others”

Amiee Seager, Internal Asphalt Sales Representative

What would be your advice to any women looking to get into the construction industry?

“100% do it! I think when we think of construction we automatically think of it as an industry dominated by men, and as an industry we need to break that stigma. I would also say it’s important to remember construction is not only the building you see on site, there are loads of career paths within the industry, something for everyone.”

Karolina Knosalla, Senior Technician

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years from now?

“I see myself working still in the construction sector. I want to make sure we reduce our carbon footprint and manufacture great quality materials and minimize waste. Working with environmentally aware contractors to improve road safety.”

Millie Jackson, Affinity Network Lead

“I am extremely proud to lead the female Affinity Group, Women Empowered which brings together a community of like-minded individuals, all passionate about achieving an equal and gender supportive working environment. In taking diversity seriously, we will help ensure the AIUK reflects the world around it and does not operate in a vacuum. This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the overall profitability of the organisation and the overall wellness of all employees”.

Natalie Thomas, Affinity Network Lead

“My first experience within the world of ED&I, was during a leadership course a few years ago. I found the subject daunting, yet intriguing. Something that every individual could, and should relate to at some level. I originally joined the AGE affinity group, not with the aim of leading, but being a member. Then when the opportunity arose to take a step up, I thought it was a great chance to make a difference.”
