We now have an opportunity for a Senior Construction Project Manager to manage our International construction projects ranging from New stores and commercially led roll outs to capital maintenance projects and format trials from inception to completion. You will manage timescales, budget and all progress communication both internally and externally. You will also manage projects through external third party project management resource. A key part of this role is managing stakeholders and influencing business decisions.

Our construction team are currently working on a large number of exciting concept developments and roll-outs across all of our retail formats, from airports, hospitals, railway stations, shopping centres and high streets both in the UK and abroad.  As well as the main WHSmith format the team also manage work on a number of other formats including coffee, convenience food and tech stores, as well as managing the implant of concessions into our environments.  The work is varied, fast paced and rewarding.

What you’ll be doing:
•    Delivery of allocated construction projects on time, to budget and to highest quality
•    Support the Head of Construction & Maintenance, and Director, to innovate and build supplier relationships, to ensure WHSmith construction projects are delivered in a world class manner.
•    Proactively manage the project through the Stage Gate process, from initiation, through planning, cost sign off, contractor selection, landlord approvals, work on site, handover, snagging and final accounts / project closure
•    Deal and resolve any issues with project delivery or cost during the life of the project, liaising with contractors, landlords and internal stakeholders as required to ensure first class delivery
•    Ensure project teams have all relevant and current information available to them to deliver successful projects
•    Ensure delivery of project in line with the approved design standards
•    Ensure highest standards of safety are achieved through design and delivery
•    Provide up to date project information on progress, ensuring clear project reporting is available at all times
•    Identify and manage project risk to ensure right first-time project delivery, every time
•    Support with development of Construction Project Managers within the team

What we are looking for:
•    Role model exceptional behaviours and technical skills in fulfilment of the role
•    Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact at all levels of seniority
•    Needs to demonstrate experience and ability to manage in a cost-conscious environment
•    A ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to manage any challenges 
•    Ability to deal with ambiguity, and provide clarity to project teams
•    A team player who is able to self-manage, yet is willing and able to support colleagues and share best practice
•    Previous International Construction Project Management experience is essential
•    Experience of managing 3rd party contractors and managing suppliers/landlord relationships would be advantageous
•    Ability to plan and prioritise multiple activities and juggle prioritise effectively
•    The ability to constructively challenge the norm 
•    Exceptional time management and organisation skills
•    Educated to Degree level or substantial relevant experience
•    Valid UK Driving licence
