Here at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) we are looking to recruit a Business Unit Manager leading a team of AO Business Unit Support Officers, within the Survey & Inspection National Business Unit. You will be responsible for ensuring completion of PMR's, identifying training/development needs and the setting of challenging and relevant objectives aligned to the MCA Business Plan and to the annual activities that the S&I must achieve.

As our Business Unit Manager, we will look to you to provide financial, management and administrative support across the Survey & Inspection (S&I) Divisional Areas. Primary responsibility is to the shipping Accounts through the Agresso (ABW) platform (including debt management).

You will work closely with the Business Unit Lead (BU Lead) and Business Support Partner (BSP) to ensure that business support and financial resources are aligned with Survey and Inspection priorities.
 

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Responsible for managing the provision of administrative business support within the Business Unit and pro-actively managing the workflow by the monitoring, analysing and reporting of progress or backlogs of work, employing a corporate and risk management approach, utilising the tools within the Agresso (ABW) and Power Bi platforms. Provide regular high-level update reports for the BU Lead and BSP.
• Work closely with the BU Lead and BSP to ensure that consistent business support is aligned with Survey and Inspection priorities and to develop working relationships and processes to improve the efficiency of the Division. Report to the BU Lead and BSP any identified risks within the Business Unit as soon as immediately practicable.
• Actively engage with the MCA HQ Finance and Procurement Team to ensure high levels of governance particularly relating to all areas of the Agresso (ABW) platform, ensuring full understanding and compliance with MCA requirements across S&I (Business Unit, Marine Offices, including remote workers). With particular emphasis regarding the Shipping Accounts.
• Undertaking quality assurance activities for the Business Unit in respect of processes and activities, including Agresso (ABW).
• Assist the BSP with internal and external Audit preparation. Share best practice with colleagues and follow up on Non- Conformity Notices etc. Responsible for maintaining up to date and accurate records in agreed format(s) in support of ISO accreditation.
• Manage the Cash account and paperwork for banking of cash and cheques, and report back to the BSP.
