The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, commercially minded Buyer to join our team based in Dublin. In this pivotal role you will be the key commercial manager responsible for the Buying of Books, Confectionery, Drinks and Souvenirs for WHSmith Irish stores. The main purpose of this role is to drive the commercial agenda of our Ireland business whilst delivering maximum sales and profitability through determining the offers we make to our customers and successfully managing the trading activities. You will use your expertise of the Irish Books market to develop and improve our customer offer.

What you'll do
* Responsible for the range management of the Books, Confectionery, Drinks and Souvenir categories in Ireland
*Account manage supplier relationships and negotiating reductions in costs of goods sold, first to market and supplier incomes
* Select and develop profitable new lines across all categories you are responsible for
* Overall effective supply chain and cost management
* Lead and develop innovative range marketing plans (in conjunction with marketing)
*Generate and deliver reports in order to gain meaningful insights to drive business decisions
* Keep abreast of market trends, customer requirements and competitor activity thus identify market opportunities
* Conduct range reviews and undertake continuous improvement of the product offer through effective range analysis
* Create open and effective relationships with stores through regular telephone communication and visits
* Line management of an Assistant Buyer

Who we're looking for
* Previous experience of Retail/FMCG buying within fast moving categories and businesses
* Previous retail buying experience within across one of our core categories; books, food and drink, stationery or a similar industry with a fast paced product cycle is highly desirable
* Account management skills and experience of working with large branded suppliers
* Strong negotiation skills and experience of negotiating income and promotional support from suppliers
* Strong commercial skills and ability to interpret the market quickly
* Remains calm under pressure
* Exceptional analytical skills and ability to use data to drive business decisions
* Engaging and influential communication
* Understanding of Profit and Loss management
* Degree educated or equivalent with a high level of numeracy
* Flexibility to travel within Ireland and UK
