The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an organisation like no other

Job description

Our work saves lives, every single day. Whether at the beach, coast or sea; people rely on our 24-hour emergency service 365-days a year, whilst our surveyors operate to ensure high standards of safety for all boat users around the globe.

The critical services that the MCA provide to our customers rely on the best people, processes and technology and whilst we are a high performing organisation, we still have work to do.

Technology and digital innovation are increasingly critical to our delivery, and the potential for digital ways of working to enable even higher levels of performance are abundant.

With this in mind, we now are making a step change in our capability to deliver technology improvements and innovation and, as part of this exciting journey, we are seeking a Principal Technical Architect to lead the transformation of enterprise architecture and service design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

• Undertaking a full assessment and blueprint build of our current architecture.
• Building a clear roadmap of both service improvements and transformation, including our cloud journey.
• Taking a holistic view of the needs of our organisation, in order to provide complete and single solutions to the business.
• Working closely with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels to meet a broad range of complex needs.
• Taking ownership of our "run, grow, transform strategy" for architecture as a thought leader in your field.
• Leading a team to deliver technical and tactical advancements that support the strategy that you develop in conjunction with the CIO.
• Networking externally with peers across Government and partner organisations to drive best practice adoption and engagement.

As the successful candidate you will have experience of replacing legacy technology and data centres, modernising and leading a business into a new era of world-class architecture. You will be a recognised technical expert and excellent communicator; able to translate technical needs into simple and effective language for any stakeholder, and the needs of any stakeholder into market-leading technology and service solutions.

This is an opportunity to not only play a substantial role in the next-generation technology of the only national emergency service and a critical part of the UK's infrastructure, but a hugely exciting opportunity to work at an influential level within a market leading digital organisation.
