The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is the largest operator of aviation in Government outside of the Ministry of Defence and spends over £4.5m weekly on aviation assets including helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. It operates aircraft under various contracts with over 300 pilots, engineers and support crew forming the backbone of these services. These contracts deliver services which save lives on a daily basis, protect the marine environment and support the work of other government departments. The Aviation Branch, within the MCA Commercial and Programmes Directorate, is responsible and accountable for these services and the role of Deputy Aviation Contract Manager plays a critical part in ensuring their delivery.

If successful, you will be responsible for providing support to the Aviation Contract Managers in the day to day management of the Aviation Contracts. This will include monitoring the performance of our approved suppliers and financial management.

This is a challenging but rewarding role where you will promote continuous improvement of service delivery across our aviation contracts. You will have the opportunity to deputise for the Aviation Contract Manager and lead on the management of high-profile aviation contracts that save lives every day.
 

Responsibilities

- Developing relationships with service providers to identify management information that will promote continuous improvement of service delivery across the aviation contracts

- Assessing and verifying monthly performance information from all aviation contracts, ensuring service level agreements (SLA) and key performance indicators (KPI) standards are measured and, where applicable, Service Credits are applied

- Responsible for the day to day management of the MCA’s Aviation Branch budget, payments to suppliers and cost recovery arrangements.

- Manage and monitor aviation contract team risks that feed into Directorate risk register.

- In support of the Contract Manager, assist in the development and preparation of procurement and contract documentation as well as the on-boarding process for new suppliers.

- Work with the Aviation Contract Manager and the Aviation Commercial Lead to secure ongoing value for money for aviation activity

About you

You are someone that has superb interpersonal skills, being able to use your skills to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You enjoy working collaboratively with different business areas and likes the challenge of influencing others to achieve business outcomes.

Excellent organisational skills are required and you will be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines.

Experience in or a knowledge of contract management and/or procurement processes and practice is a requirement of this role. You will need to take a genuine interest in the Commercial/Procurement profession and proactively engage with your own development, in addition to be being passionate about supporting a vital public service.

Additional Information

We are following current government guidelines and working remotely, if successful you will be provided with IT equipment to carry out your duties remotely.

Once usual service resumes, there will be some travel involved with this role. This will usually occur once a quarter to Helicopter SAR Service bases, other supplier locations around the UK and attending meetings in London.

There maybe an opportunity for potential line management responsibility in this role, but no experience is required as we will provide you with the tools you need to provide line management to a member of the team.

It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
