Important information regarding Vetting Checks
Due to Covid-19, there is less capacity to complete National Security Vetting checks. Vetting is being prioritised for staff either directly involved in the HMG Covid-19 Response or roles in a limited number of agreed high priority areas.
Therefore, in some instances, following successful BPSS pre-employment checks, the successful candidate may commence employment on the premise that NSV higher security checks will be conducted once normal service levels resume. Should NSV checks prove to be unsuccessful, an alternative role, not requiring NSV clearance, will be identified within the department.
If this is not possible the start date for some campaigns will need to be delayed until vetting has been completed.

We are looking for a Data Handling Manager to join our MCA Information Assurance (IA) team located in Southampton. In this role you will report to the Head of Information Assurance and work alongside the Security Manager.
This is an interesting and varied role, where you will be required to work with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and become an expert, able to apply sound skills and knowledge to provide expert advice on information governance, data handling and information legislation and associated risks to the business, ensuring a sensible and proportionate approach is taken to help the Agency to do its business in a way that inspires staff and public trust and confidence.
Acting at a senior level, the post holder will be accountable for ensuring data handling protocols, as mandated by HMG Security Policy Framework are delivered and manage the information asset framework and risk assurances to Cabinet Office (CO) ensuring delivery against all mandatory requirements.
In addition, you will lead and direct teams to ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs are in place with both external and internal teams and ensure all contractors carry out processes to IA and government standards and provide leadership in raising the profile of data handling and information governance across the MCA and its contractors .
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
. Accountability ensuring data handling protocols, as mandated by HMG Security Policy Framework are delivered and manage the information asset framework and risk assurances to Cabinet Office (CO) ensuring delivery against all mandatory requirements. Ensure additional reporting to DfT is undertaken and delivered as required.
. Providing expert advice to the MCA, its suppliers and employees on a wide range of information governance, data handling and information legislation matters, including data protection impact assessments, privacy notices, breach handling, contracts, data sharing agreements and records of processing.
. Delivering training and awareness for information governance and data protection, ensuring the appropriate needs of Agency staff, contractors and third parties and provide appropriate role-based security training.
. Coordinating audit responses in relation to data handling and information assurance actions to ensure compliance with CO standards.
. Reporting to senior management on all matters related to information governance and data protection.
For this role, you will need to be a highly proactive individual who can evidence strong stakeholder management skills. You will have an ability to understand complex information and relay it effectively to all stakeholders, whether that be in written or oral format.
Your experience and knowledge will give you the confidence to challenge and influence your stakeholders. You will be a strong advocate of change and continuous improvement, contributing to the development and continual enhancement of the service you and the wider team provide, driving close collaboration between all.
You will be comfortable following processes, operating firmly within set standards, rules and guidelines and have experience and knowledge of current data protection law and Information Security principles and standards and be able to apply this in advising non data professionals.
For this role it's also important you have proven experience in the handling of government and public data and information in adherence to data legislation requirements (e.g. the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004).
