We have exciting opportunities for those who thrive in a high profile, fast-paced, challenging project environment. These are client sponsorship roles which require leadership and close working with multiple stakeholders within and outside the Department.

Some of the areas you could work on are listed below with other opportunities across the Department still evolving:

• Principal Client on the Trans Pennine Route Upgrade programme.
• Operation of the Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline
• Great Western/Wales & Wessex Network Enhancements
• The Lower Thames Crossing
• Managing interface between High Speed 2, the conventional railway infrastructure projects and rail franchises (both existing and future franchises) across the UK Rail Network

Travel may be required to attend meetings in London or elsewhere in the UK.

Responsibilities

Your Role Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Leading and managing a high performing team, driving successful outcomes and providing support in their learning and development. You will need to set direction and vision, motivate and engage the team, and manage the team effectively
• Leading the Department’s interests in the successful planning and delivery of the projects or programmes including oversight of benefits realisation, driving the agenda for harnessing opportunities to speed up delivery, manage costs and schedule and maximise synergies with key interfaces and interdependencies.
• Leading the development, review and challenge project/programme business cases focusing on value for money and benefits realisation; securing approvals to progress from options, through design and development and finally to delivery, including the necessary approval from Ministers.
• Leading the management of risks and issues on the projects and programmes. Facilitate and broker the resolution of issues, the mitigation of risk and trade-offs between competing priorities and escalating these when needed.

About you

You are able to work effectively with both internal and external key people, focusing on a common objective. You will have experience of challenging assumptions and working with partners to resolve issues and manage priorities.

You have a passion for motivating and engaging your team towards key strategic objectives. We are on the lookout for someone that has the desire to develop multidisciplinary teams.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

• Experience of working in a leadership role within the development and delivery of major projects and programmes, such as a client or sponsor.

• Experience of working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify the main issues, risks and generate solutions to ensure a project or programme was delivered on time and within budget.

• Experience of making a strong personal impact, particularly in terms of successfully obtaining decisions through formal governance boards.

• Experience of leading, managing and building capability of multidisciplinary teams.

The sift is due to take place 8th-10th December.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held 6th-8th January.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
