Vacancy Description

The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is an executive agency of the Department for Transport. We are already an incredibly diverse organisation but we are committed to actively build on this further. We believe that by being a diverse and inclusive workplace, where everyone is valued, we are more motivated, higher performing and more committed to our team.

VCA is the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval authority and, with approaching 40 years of experience, we support industry by providing internationally recognised testing and certification for new road vehicles, agricultural tractors, off-road vehicles and their systems and components. With the rapid progress of new technologies such as electric and autonomous vehicles, this is an exciting time to join the VCA Board as we continue to modernise, transform and build a highly skilled, flexible workforce that will enable us to remain one of the most respected vehicle certification agencies in the world.

We are seeking one Non-Executive Director to join our Board. As a Board member you will use your experience and expertise to provide support and challenge to our Executive Team and play a vital role in the strategic and operational leadership of the organisation. As the Agency recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic and looks ahead to the UK’s future relationship with the European Union and the future opportunities for the automotive industry, the role of the Board is more pivotal than ever.

Person Specification

We welcome applicants with substantial experience as a Non-Executive Director and who have been an Audit Committee member or Chair. In addition to your Non-Executive Director responsibilities, you will take on the role of Chair of the VCA Audit Committee, which provides oversight of the Agency’s internal controls and financial reporting and audit processes.

As we are one of the smallest Arm’s Length Bodies of the Department for Transport, you will be familiar with how small or medium sized organisations operate and will have experience of leading strategic change processes.

We welcome all applications, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, social background, religious beliefs, ethnicity or age. For more information about the role, please see the candidate pack.
