Your Role:

To support Apollo in providing commercial and insurance focused legal advice in support of safely delivering our strategy.

What you’ll do:

You will be responsible for providing day-to-day legal advice, contract, and transaction support to Apollo management to ensure that our competitive interests are as well positioned as practicable and that there has been due compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements as well as the Group's own internal governance procedures.

From commercial to corporate legal aspects, you will provide comprehensive legal advice and counsel to the Executive team, and wider business including:

Contract Management

  • Provide support with wordings of insurance products and policies, where appropriate.
  • Report on the terms of material contracts and associated legal risks and mitigants to senior management and relevant committees. To identify and report any matters which are of strategic, reputational, or material financial value to Executive.
  • Assist with the ongoing development of standard form documentation.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and amend a wide range of commercial insurance agreements, including non-disclosure agreements and DUAs.
  • Support procurement, outsourcing, IT, and supplier contracts, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.

Legal Advice and Support

  • Negotiate the legal aspects of a range of commercial and corporate transactions.
  • To manage external legal fees to ensure business costs are kept to a minimum and manage external legal advice to ensure sound and commercially useful advice is provided to the business.
  • Assist in legislative and regulatory compliance, including changes in law or regulation.
  • Handle non-(re)insurance claim litigation matters and liaise with external legal advisors.

Corporate Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure there is appropriate horizon scanning of legal regulatory developments and ensure that the Group is advised in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Support corporate governance frameworks and provide company secretarial services to subsidiary boards.
  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with reporting requirements under relevant laws and/or regulations.

Collaboration and Relationship Management

  • To lead the Company Secretariat team to deliver a high-quality compliant Company Secretarial function to Apollo.
  • Coordinate with external counsel and internal advisory functions including the arranging of legal education and training where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure effective contracting, procurement, and negotiation practices.

What we are looking for:

  • England & Wales qualified solicitor (or a solicitor or attorney qualified in another jurisdiction with eligibility to practice in the UK under the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS) or equivalent).
  • Commercial / insurance legal practice experience
  • Detailed knowledge of the relevant statutory, regulatory, and common law applicable to a Lloyd’s insurance Group.
  • Experience of working in-house in financial services.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance regulatory and market practices in the UK, including an awareness of legislative and best practice change and its applicability to a financial services organisation.
  • An understanding of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Apollo’s strategy.
