About this opportunity

Do you want to be a hands-on developer in a strong team of scientists and engineers to support your ideas?

Have you got a keen curiosity about research and development but want to see your work implemented and giving real world benefit?

If this is you then we believe you could be just who our team is looking for.

Responsible for designing, developing and implementing data science & machine learning solutions, you will address large and small cyber security technology problems in our Chief Security Operations platform. Hands-on development through the entire data science life cycle from academic and industry research to crafting operational model pipelines will be a key component of your work.

You’ll be part of a growing team of Data Scientists and be directly interacting with your customers, prioritise multiple requests and educate business areas how to use data throughout the decision-making process and grow confidence in your ground-breaking solutions. You’ll help the Security Data Services lab play a pivotal role in building new Security Machine Learning capabilities for the CSO platform.

We can give you the opportunity to work with our collaborative, group wide community of data scientists at the hub of a ground-breaking AI and automation agenda.

You'll employ machine learning and data science techniques in a huge way to rapidly transform everything from how we deliver key engineering projects to optimising new cloud platforms, how we keep the group secure to how to make technology data more consumable.

Key Accountabilities;

Here are some real examples of the work you could be doing:

  • Leading security machine learning product enhancements by using your data science and machine learning expertise.
  • Wrangling data from various sources (system and colleague activity log data stored across cloud and on-premise platforms)
  • Researching and developing predictive models using approaches new to the organisation and implementing into dedicated Security MLOps pipelines that ensure our infrastructure choices are secure, resilient, efficient and fast.
  • Developing new analytics and models that help us truly unlock the power of machine learning in protecting the group from internal and external threats derstand our colleague experience to improve the engineering choices we make.
  • Building capability to predict when and what ‘events of interest’ are likely to happen so that we identify root causes before security or infrastructure is impacted.
  • Being a hands-on researcher, designer and developer of industry leading techniques.

About us

We’re on an exciting journey and there couldn’t be a better time to join us. The investments we’re making in our people, data, and technology are leading to innovative projects, fresh possibilities, and countless new ways for our people to work, learn, and thrive.

We're building the bank of the future and developing the next generation of digital banking solutions securely. The Chief Security Office (CSO) plays a key role in delivering Lloyds Banking Group's vision of putting customers at the heart of everything we do, helping Britain prosper, and protecting the Group and its customers and suppliers from security threats. We define and communicate the Group's security strategy and provide dedicated support and constructive challenge to business areas to ensure the delivery of an effective and compliant security risk management framework.

What you’ll need

We're keen to speak to you if you're an established Data Scientist with proven practice in a related industry. Experience in a security or fraud related area would also be ideal, but not a pre-requisite. Interaction with the technical and engineering community both internally and externally (other companies, software vendors and universities for example) plays a key part in this role so you should be practised in these kinds of collaborations. You’ll also need to possess a developed communication kit bag - adept at conversing to technical/non-technical audiences and influencing widely.

  • Code using Python, SQL or similar languages and be familiar with modern data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop and model workflow tools like MLFlow
  • Experience of developing and implement data science or machine learning into Cloud platforms with specific exposure to Azure Databricks, Kubeflow and Google Vertex AI being useful.
  • Hands-on experience of feature engineering, development, validation and implementation of modelling techniques. Experience of applying machine learning to cyber-security or other domains using monitoring and alerting in data streams is advantageous.
  • A validated understanding of data engineering for data science and machine learning. Familiarity with graph/NoSQL databases, relational data bases, data streaming and how these can be used to optimise model performance
  • An active curiosity about the ongoing development of data science techniques, cloud capability and technology. We want you to help us become an outstanding machine learning team!
