Macquarie Capital EMEA - Construction Director

Employer
Macquarie
Location
London (Greater)
Salary
£competitive
Closing date
1 Aug 2020

Reporting directly to the CEO of the newly created Development Business, the Construction Director is responsible for the construction of onshore renewable projects focusing primarily on Solar projects in Europe.

The business has a pipeline of more than 5GW of solar projects to deliver over the coming years, and you will be primarily responsible for the execution of construction projects from tender phase to completion. In addition, you will be actively involved with the teams responsible for the origination and development and engineering design of the projects as well as our external partners, government authorities, lenders and contractors.  You will work with the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partners to maintain the highest quality and health and safety standards during the delivery of works and ensure compliance with the engagements made.

You will utilise your experience in resolving contractual disputes and technical problems in a timely manner through effective collaboration and close liaison with external parties, providing a deep and accurate knowledge of the projects deliverables, including reporting and the management and structuring of robust HSEQ procedures, processes and supervision.

Based in London, you will work closely with an experienced team across various countries in Europe so will be expected to spend significant time in other locations in Europe as needed with deal counterparties, contractors, advisers, shareholders and key stakeholders in the wider renewable energy sector.

The successful candidate will have significant (ideally 15+ years) of international experience (ideally across EMEA), with significant experience of having worked in an EPC or Civil Works main contractor environment in the Energy & Infrastructure sectors (preferably power & renewables, but also potentially oil & gas or civil works).  You will bring a proven track record in delivering the construction and commissioning of complex renewables projects to demonstrate technical expertise and pedigree.  You will have strong deal making experience and commercial and contractual acumen with track record of managing complex contracts using both Common Law and Civil Law in an international context (e.g. FIDIC contracts).

Additionally, you will possess strong literacy with respect to project assumptions (including schedules, predicting future performance, contingency levels) and a demonstrable track record of successfully managing a portfolio of major infrastructure projects in order to show evidence of managerial gravitas.  Experience in coordinating the activities of multi-cultural JV partners and the ability to represent the Development Business’ interests on the asset-level Board for each project will be a key requirement. A degree in Engineering or Business-related field would be highly advantageous, as would additional language skills (French, Spanish, Italian) including excellent written and spoken English.

If you possess an entrepreneurial mindset, a self-starter attitude and the gravitas to command the respect and trust of Macquarie’s partners external parties, we want to hear from you!
