Do you have the passion and energy to drive ActionAid UK’s major gift programme, helping us deliver on our new strategy ‘Together, with Women and Girls’?

ActionAid is an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty. Our dedicated local staff are changing the world with women and girls. We are ending violence and fighting poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.

ActionAid UK is recruiting an entrepreneurial and ambitious Senior Major Gifts Manager to initiate, build and manage relationships with a portfolio of existing and prospective philanthropists who have the capacity to give gifts of £25,000 or more. A key focus will be to drive new opportunities with prospective donors and support line reports to develop the Next Generation and Ambassador Network programmes, securing long-term, substantial financial support for ActionAid UK.

This role will develop individual cultivation strategies for each supporter, matching donor interests to projects in need of funding, ensuring that priorities are carefully balanced with our funding needs.

You will raise awareness of ActionAid UK’s mission, vision and values, inspiring prospective donors to engage with and support our work for Women and Girls through proactive and extensive networking, and communicating our work through meetings, presentations, and well-targeted funding applications. With extensive knowledge of philanthropy trends, you will proactively seek and identify innovative and creative opportunities to deepen and broaden relationships with existing and prospective donors, leading on specific areas of philanthropic focus as required, leading or overseeing events and potentially accompanying donors on overseas trips to increase their emotional engagement with the cause. Innovative and target driven, you will have proven ability to articulate complex issues in a compelling and persuasive manner and to present a pitch with confidence, leading to funds and relationships being secured. Line managing within the Major Gifts team, you will build and develop individuals and empower them as needed in line with ActionAid’s management principles.

You will have strong administrative and numerical skills, demonstrated by keeping financial forecasts up to date, producing financial reports and maintaining records of all communications with contacts on the supporter database, in line with data protection legislation. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to build major gift programmes, with a long term aim of achieving financial targets and securing major donations from high net-worth individuals or other high value sources. Ability and willingness to work in a culturally sensitive and appropriate way in line with ActionAid’s values is also required.

Please note that this role is being offered as a 12-month fixed term contract on a 21 hour per week basis. Interviews will be held on the 1st of April 2020.
