As we're changing, we're seeking a Principal Engineer for our Group Identity platform to support 15+ teams of multidisciplinary engineers to create amazing Identity and Access Management products, focusing on reusability, stability, scalability, value and performance.

In conjunction with the wider Digital Technology Identity leadership team, the Technical Product Owners and Architects you will be one of several principal engineers responsible for leading the technical direction of the software engineering teams, to ensure we have the capabilities of scaling to meet the ever-demanding strategic Digital demands from Sky and the wider Comcast group. You'll help create a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone is comfortable to be themselves and foster an environment that is fun yet challenging.

What you'll do:
  • Technical leadership of our software engineering teams, helping to maintain and grow the appropriate mix of skills and abilities to deliver the Identity product roadmap and meet Sky's "Best Platform" vision for all things related to our customer's Digital Identity.
  • Support the Head of Software Engineering and the Head of Solutions to develop and articulate the vision and strategy for the engineering teams; refine the engineering approach that will see continuous improvements and automation of the team's ways of working.
  • Work closely with all engineering disciplines and providing a level of coaching and hands-on expertise as required to our software engineers and automated test engineers.
  • Through this leadership and coaching help grow the next level of leaders in the team, promoting expertise and best practices in technology through internal Guilds, external Meet Ups, speaking at Conferences.
  • Recognise that of primary importance is that engineers are enabled to build great technology so helping to remove any blockers for them is critical!
  • Be mindful that the engineering teams need to support production systems 24x7 and where appropriate support any troubleshooting across the engineering and Site Reliability Teams.

What you'll bring:
  • Excellent software engineering background and a track record of being a senior contributor to the delivery of complex, scalable software solutions into production.
  • Extensive hands-on coding experience of developing cloud-based services, backend, frontend and mobile apps.
  • Software architecture: while not essential, it is likely that you'll have a Bachelor's / Master's degree in engineering, computer science or a similar, relevant field.
  • A solid appreciation of DevOps principles and practices, with extensive grounding in data privacy and information security, and knowledge of dev/test process improvement, tools and automation.
  • A high degree of commercial awareness and the ability to model and forecast technology considerations such as running costs and lifetime costs.
  • A strong collaborative approach to leadership and delivery: decisive while remaining open-minded, setting high standards and leading by example.
